It's done, it's done, mirabile dictu! I probably shouldn't have picked a three hour fic for my very first podfic but it was really fun!
So what should I do next? :)

Date: 2009-05-17 08:15 pm (UTC)Seriously, man, this was so perfect. You have Sam's voice in this exactly the way I pictured this, all young and sarcastic and hurt. And then the end, with Dean!
I know this story must have been A LOT of work, but I'm so very glad you did it.

Date: 2009-05-18 05:47 am (UTC)You know you write a very readable story. There are fics that I like, but if I were to think about trying to read them aloud, it would be like what Harrison Ford famously said to George Lucas, "George, you can write this shit, but you sure can't say it." Your stories have very real-sounding voices. It makes it a lot more possible.

Date: 2009-05-31 03:57 pm (UTC)Usually, I'm not that much into wincest or d/s (not against it, just not actively looking for it), but since I'm always interested in longer podfic, I decided to try this anyway. I am so glad I did.
I'm not going to comment on the story, which is amazing in its own right, but just wanted to give you detailed feedback on your wonderful reading.
Firstly, I have tell you that you have one of the nicest voices I've heard reading podfic.
Your reading is pretty even over the course of the recording: you can sometimes hear when you picked up reading again after some time, but it's never distracting. You pace the reading very well, neither too fast nor too slow, especially the former of which is not so uncommon in podfic.
The pronunciation is always clear and easy to understand, and I don't think I ever noticed you tripping over a word or mumbling away a part of a sentence.
There's a little white noise in the background in the first part of the reading, but you seem to have resolved that issue very quickly. In some of the other parts, there's this slightly metallic sort of echo - it's not really distracting, I'm just trying to give you my detailed impression, that's all.
Finally, your reading has a quality which I really admire in readers: a great balance between a straight-forward reading and voice-acting. Your voice is never expressionless, but you take yourself back enough in the expository parts of the story to allow the listener to absorb the narrative and draw her own conclusions. In dialog, you manage to capture a lot of conflicting feelings in the emotionally charged dialog (sometimes also free indirect discourse from Sam's POV), using both volume and pace. For example, it really broke my heart how Sam's voice becomes quiet and hard and then desperate when he reproaches himself in his father's words; at the same time, you also conveyed the lightness and tenderness when Dean takes care of him or when they just have some innocent fun together.
I am honestly amazed that this is your first podfic - and a little disappointed, too, because this means I will have to wait if I want to hear more.
Thank you so much for sharing, and I hope you'll continue reading.
P.S. In case you're really interested in suggestions as to what to read in future, how about you post what fandom(s), types of story, pairings, and length of story you'd be willing to read?

Date: 2009-05-31 10:40 pm (UTC)The metallic thing is an artifact of Audacity's noise removal software. I'm trying to find the right balance; thanks for giving me your impression.
So I just posted a new fic to

Date: 2010-01-14 05:23 am (UTC)For the first few paragraphs, I was just reading along while listening to your podfic, but your voice was just nailing Sam so I just listened to all the rest.
And damn, but I loved how you read Sam, and John, and fuck your Dean voice was AWESOME. Clipped and tight and drawling just like he does.
Great job! *g*
